I never thought that I would be a recruiter and I am sure that there are many like me.

When I was in school I never heard from anyone including from teacher about careers in recruitment even till HSC I was unaware about these industry.

All we wanted to become was Pilot, Engineer, Doctor and off course Cricketer.
It was only after graduation that I had a clear picture of what exactly a recruitment industry is.

Still had a big misconception that Human Resource Executive and Recruitment Executive are same. But later came to know that the role Recruitment executive is one of the functions of HR.

Finally almost six month old in this industry, now have a good knowledge about it and also eager to learn a lot.

There is no doubt recruitment is a sales job. But I came to know only when I started calling each potential candidate and consulting them about opening.

For a agency recruiter like me it is more than just normal sales. In any industry there are sales but it has to do only once, but in recruitment industry it is not twice but thrice.
1] Selling service to client.
2] Selling job to candidate.
3] Selling candidate to client.

And to add more worries to the job… We recruiter deal with the most unreliable product (candidate) in the world i.e. Human nature.

One thing that I don’t like about these industry is that either you will be awarded with gold medal or otherwise no award, neither silver nor bronze. No compensation for time, intelligence, money and efforts invested. You feel useless till you successfully placed a candidate and make a bill for your company
But I still enjoy working despite all these challenges.

Exactly don’t know the cause of attraction may be the money involved or adventure of helping a desperate candidate.
.
.
But a simple fact remains the same with any industry including recruitment that if you want to make your presence and leave your mark you need to work harder and smarter as well as need a little luck.

Well, I do not agree. Maybe you just need to discuss the payouts better before you join a recruitment firm. I believe in payouts at every step to keep the motivation levels high.

    @ Taranjit

I agree with you but my point of view was not for my employer but was for whole industry, where our company makes profit only after successful placement.
